Sangeeta Murugkar
Sangeeta Murugkar

Dr. Sangeeta Murugkar is an Associate Professor in the Medical Physics Group in the Department of Physics at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. She is an expert in developing non-invasive, rapid and cost-effective optical imaging instrumentation and quantitative analysis techniques utilizing lasers.

Sangeeta established the Laboratory for Laser-Assisted Medical Physics and Engineering (LLAMPE) in the Department of Physics after joining Carleton University in 2013. Following her undergraduate degree in India, Sangeeta completed her PhD in Physics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, studying the fundamental physics of semiconductor superlattices using Raman spectroscopy. She developed her interest for real-world applications of photonics as a post-doctoral fellow at McMaster University for two years and a Research Scientist in the telecommunications industry giant JDS Uniphase in Ottawa for five years. Sangeeta discovered her passion for Biophotonics in 2006 while working as a Research Associate to Prof. Hanan Anis at the University of Ottawa for five years. She enjoyed the opportunity to work with Prof. Robert Boyd, an international expert in nonlinear optics at the University of Ottawa from 2011-2013.

Harry Allen
Harry Allen

Harry completed an MSc in Medical Physics in August 2018 and started as a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering, both in the LAMPE Lab. His MSc research involved the application of Raman spectroscopy to investigate the effects of ionizing radiation on human lens epithelial cells. His PhD research involves developing multimodal coherent Raman imaging for cancer profiling. He has previously completed a BSc in Mathematics and Physics at Carleton University and enjoys learning new things.

Connor McMairn
Connor McNairn

Connor is in his first year of PhD in medical physics with his research focused on developing applications of Raman spectroscopy in radiation dosimetry. Connor enjoys reading novels in his free time.

Justin Gagnon
Justin Gagnon

Justin started his Ph.D. in Medical Physics in the LAMPE lab in September 2021. His M.Sc. degree in Physics under the supervision of Prof. Robert Boyd at the University of Ottawa was focused on phase-matching nonlinear-optical interactions using zero-index metamaterials. His Ph.D. will focus on developing stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) imaging for applications in ionizing radiation research. Justin previously completed his Honours B.Sc. in Physics at the University of Ottawa and enjoys learning languages and playing chess in his spare time.

Amiel Beausoleil-Morrison
Amiel Beausoleil-Morrison

Amiel is in her fourth year of a Bachelors in Science Honours in Physics (Theory stream). As an Honors Project student in the LLAMPE, she is assisting with the design of a compact Raman spectroscopy setup for measurements of blood plasma. Favourite hobbies are playing violin, reading, and photography.
